Regarding the Feast of Tabernalces, God said ,”you shall rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days.” (Leviticus 23:40) How previleged we are to have a week-long celebration commanded by God! But what is this celebration about? It is about our past, present, and future.
Past – Remember your salvation:
- We were saved by God’s mighty hand from sin. The Bible says, “You shall dwell in booths for seven days… that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.’ ” (Leviticus 23:42-43)
Present – Living with Jesus at the present:
- Talking about Jesus (the Word), the Bible says, “And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
Future:
- We celebrate God’s future provision. The Bible says, “Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast (Feast of Tabernacles) to the LORD your God… because the LORD God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice.” (Deuteronomy 16:15)
- We also celebrate our eternal destiny with God in the New Heaven and new Earth, about which the Bible says, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4)
Palm branches, booths, dance, and singing certain psalms are part of this joyful celebration.
